His Way is Best?

Yes, in the huge expanse of Eternity, when all the questions are answered, it is.

But this morning in the meeting, I had the sensation of being in my place in time and recalling situations past, present and yes, oddly, future events when I really can't see that His Way has been/ is / will be Best. Then again - WHO am I to judge this stuff?

This pondering is all the fault of Phil Laeger's arrangement of the chorus, 'I'm in His Hands',(seems to be everywhere at the moment, which is odd, as it's not 'new') which highlights the phrase like this :

'His Way is Best( pause)you see, I'm in his hands.'

rather than the traditional version which I feel kind if hides that challenge thrown out by Mr Laeger's version:

' His way is best, you see, I'm in his hands.'

There's no opportunity to have a moment of holy doubt about it, before just taking it for granted.

I guess on another day, this arrangement would be and has been very affirming. My faith in, and my personal experience of God reassures me that it's true, His way IS best. I'd be all over the place if I didn't have that....and yet....?

Oooh! Liz! You don't know how much I was gritting my teeth whilst singing that song this morning, (or maybe you do - I hope it wasn't too obvious!)

It wasn't actually that phrase causing my issue - it was, 'the days I cannot see, have all been planned for me', but I hear what you are saying about the pause after 'his way is best...' It does kind of highlight the point.

I guess the 'answer' to that one would be that in the end, all these things that happen that don't seem like the 'best' will make sense, and also that what we may think is the best in our worldly perspecive on 'how things should be', is not necessarily the same perspective God has.

However, you know how much I hate 'answers' that gloss over the rawness of emotion felt in the questions posed and so I hear you, and I am with you on that. I guess sometimes it comes down to needing to take a deep breath, and singing it anyway, even if it is through gritted teeth.

I was all set to sing with the worship band this morning, but Phil said I didn't have to, which made me a bit wobbly!

I have to say, that line 'His way is best you see' was my huge downfall this morning.

In my place at the moment - I don't understand!

I hope I am not going to trivialise anything by what I am about to say but the thing about 'His way is best' got me thinking after Dawn's comment. My take on it is that God's way is best although it is not obvious at certain times. When you are going through hard and trying times, it appears to be very hard to see why this is best, but I would like to think once the time ahs passed and we look back at the situation and see how God intervened proves that His way is best. I don't know if that made any sense and I hope i haven't caused offence or trivialised anything, that was not my intention.

Have you ever thought of it this way...'His way is best. You see I'm in his hands.'

I know it's not how it was written but thinking about it like this is sometimes the only way I can cope.

Really interesting blog Liz. Makes me think!

Not at all, Claire, and with hindsight of things that have happened in the past I can see that, but when you are in a 'situation' it's very hard to see and sometimes circumstances that are so far removed from anything you have ever been in before make it hard to related that previous faith.
