And now...the end is near....and I so reach....

SC - reaming point!

I really need your advice - all of you, so FOCUS!

Got a call from the Mill this morning, which I passed up as I was driving. I then began musing about why they were ringing:

  • Had the original material suddenly arrived?

  • Had the 'Account Manager' decided that I would have to pay the difference after all

  • Had the Mill gone into receivership?

Couldn't ring 'til lunchtime, so shelved that thought.

'Mrs Hall' says Stella, 'you won't believe this!'

' Oh, hold on, I know the answer to this', I think to myself and go on to actually begin quoting my list.

'No, none of the above....your second choice is also discontinued!'

Did any of you see that coming?

So here's where I need your advice.

Do I give up with this knowing that I will loose some fairly serious funds if I go elsewhere ....

....OR do I stick with it and venture into the Mill again for a third choice, where I will sit and wait until she has phoned the sheep that provide the wool part of the mix ( I don't know what the mix is to be honest, or if wool would be a good ingredient in a curtain material) to ensure they have enough fleece to continue with the material.

YOU DECIDE...please!

I'd tell them to get lost and go somewhere else, personally, but Mrs Starling is probably the best person to give you consumer advice!

I'd give them 1 more chance as long as they can guarentee no more disappointments. I support Dawn's view but know that you have concerns over the refund aspect.

Why don't you buy some ready-made curtains that are slightly too big and get someone else to take them in for you. That's what I have done with all my curtains. You must know someone who is good with a sewing machine or, failing that, take them to a professional. That why, you're not losing any money, and you are just buying them off the shelf so you won't be waiting to see if they have the material in. The ready made curtains on the rail at Dunhelm Mill are pretty good quality, and they have quite a good range...I should know, I have bought most of the shop!

I would not give them another chance, unless they are willing to seriously compensate you for inconvenience caused. That is over and above the refund.

I will gladly accompany you to the shop, where you can choose ready-made if you want and we will sort out the money and/or compensation.
Or we can, as Dawn so helpfully put it, tell them to get lost - obviously after we have secured our refund and/or compensation.

I think they should have better communication in their business. You can't tell a customer that there are two fabrics available only to turn round and say they are being discontinued.

I reckon if they carry on like this they will be joining the ranks of Woolies, MFI etc etc.

Sorry, I hadn't taken into account the refund aspect - I was leading with my heart, not my head!

I say we all come with you!, sounds like a grand say out.

(Note to self, don't go t'mill for my flat curtains).

(BTW, that's, FLAT curtains, not flat CURTains)

Do you mean "curtains for your flat"?

Dawn said...

Oh yeah, thanks for the help there. And that should be 'grand DAY out' not 'grand SAY out'.

I'm blaming the drousiness on the tablets!

'Off the shelf' is a problem due to the height of the thingy at the top. It's the amount of room between the curtain rail and the top of our window frame - keeping away from the issue of the material.

I'm sure there would be less aggravation in moving house! Somewhere with proper windows!

Oh, don't think we haven't had that discussion lately! This house is shrinking, or...maybe the kids are getting bigger. It's not just their physical size either, it's the space around them in terms of the energy they all emit.

Thank you one and all. I am going to visit the shop tomorrow and make a final choice and wait for it to be confirmed. If they can't help me I will ask for my money back and push for more compensation too.

I have a feeling that they are not long for this world either. Fiona, if we are right, you and I should go into some Business Analysis thing......aararrrgh did I say that? SHOOT ME!

So, we went, we chose, we waited to see the material cut and wrapped for sending to the makers and now we wait....some more.
